Learn more about Salmonellosis
- Department:
Salmonellosis is a major cause of food poisoning worldwide.
Eggs and products thereof, together with poultry are considered the main sources of human salmonellosis, and the same consumption of pork and its derivatives has also been associated with outbreaks reported in salmonellosis.
The relevance of salmonellosis as zoonoses and the fact that Salmonella carrier pigs arriving at slaughter are considered the main source of contamination of carcasses, has highlighted the need for measures to control swine salmonella in European public health plans (Regulation EC No 2160/2003).
