On November 4, it was held the 23rd edition of the Porc d’Or Awards in Vic, a city emblematic for its extensive livestock tradition. This is the gala dinner of the Spanish swine sector, where the excellence in pork production is rewarded.
The event is organized by the Institute of Research and Technology Agrifood (IRTA), belonging to the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The farms that opt for the prizes are included in the BDporc, the reference database of the Spanish swine production. For this edition, BDporc has evaluated more than 900 pig farms spread throughout the country (more than 814,000 breeding sows). Of all of them, 120 farms are nominated and finally 45 awards are distributed in the different modalities.
PigCHAMP Pro Europa participated as a collaborating company, also proud to have, among the winners, 3 customer farms:
- 1 Gold Porc d’Or Awards for the La Puebla de Mazana farm (Huesca)
- 1 Gold Porc d’Or Awards for Alvima Porcino (La Rioja), for the criterion of weaned piglets by low sow, in the 4th category (from 1001 to 2000 sows).
- 2 bronze Porc d’Or Awards for Hermanos Chico (Castilla y León)
After 23 editions, the Porc d’Or awards are already more than consolidated. As a newness this year, Portugal has joined the initiative and has held its first edition of the Porco d’Ouro Awards, within the framework of the 23rd National Porco Fair in Montijo (Portugal).
From PigCHAMP pro Europa we want to congratulate all the winners and encourage them to continue contributing to the professionalization of the sector.
